Engages in economic research, analysis, and discussions that are used to advise and inform the President and Board of Directors on economic conditions and/or various policy issues. Establishes an independent research record through internal and external publications and presentations. Contributes to the process of identifying and instituting improved economic policies. Informs and enlightens a broader audience of policymakers and interested parties and furthers our knowledge and understanding of a wide variety of economic issues. Actively participates in the public education mission of the Research department.
Essential Accountabilities
Conducts independent economic research for the purpose of maintaining and building a base of knowledge and expertise.
Establishes a research agenda on issues relevant to the Federal Reserve and builds a record of publishing in leading journals with strong potential to become an internationally recognized leader in his/her research field. Presents research at internal and external venues.
Keeps informed of current economic issues and provides advice on economic policy issues of interest to stakeholders through briefings and other written and oral communications.
Responds to economic policy questions by writing articles and giving speeches.
Provides statistical and technical expertise to improve operational efficiency.
Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
Education and Experience
Doctorate in economics or finance
3years of related work experience; minimum of three years as a Federal Reserve economist, economist at another central bank, or university assistant professor is required.
Experience presenting research at internationally recognized conferences and/or universities or Federal Reserve seminars.
Knowledge and Skills
Subject matter expertise in economics or finance, demonstrated via success in publishing in internal and external publications, commensurate with the publication record required for an experienced tenure-track assistant professor at a highly respected research university.
Expert knowledge of economic theory, econometrics and statistics.
Ability to produce rigorous empirical and/or theoretical research on par with research done by faculty at top Ph.D.-granting economics and finance departments.
Specialized, technical skills.
Interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to communicate with policymakers and provide briefings with minimal oversight.
Ability to innovate.
