ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Student Success division at the University of South Florida, is comprised of 60 departments, providing students with academic support, engagement opportunities, health & wellness services and enhancement of the educational experience. The Office of Transfer Student Success leads USFs strategic efforts to support and advocate for our diverse population of transfer students from matriculation to graduation. Our mission is to help transfer students graduate on time by facilitating a smooth transition process, connecting them with useful resources, fostering a strong sense of community, and providing the structure they need to navigate and progress through their academic journey.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The primary purpose of the Transfer Success Specialist is to improve undergraduate transfer student persistence, retention, progression, and completion in support of key university strategic goals and measures, including the three-year graduation performance-based funding metric for Florida College System Associate of Arts transfer students. This position will consult on implementation and enhancement of policy and processes, collect and analyze data to identify barriers to retention and academic progress, create outreach to students with academic performance indicators, and support university personnel serving students to help facilitate their success. The incumbent will work directly with students and will assist any undergraduate transfer student facing challenges with their academic plans, progress, course scheduling, major concerns, other academic related activities, and career goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as an academic case manager for undergraduate transfer students. Implement strategic and intentional initiatives to improve transfer student academic progress and completion through early outreach, tracking, follow up, and collaboration with campus partners. Leverage targeted intervention strategies for students who exhibit behaviors and outcomes that are correlated with possible stop out or prolonged time to completion.
Resolve individual student issues that require coordination between multiple offices at the university. Assist students with understanding institutional policies and processes, reviewing available options, and resolving concerns. May assist students in major exploration and reselection when necessary. Maintain updated student records on the appropriate platforms and monitor progress of students to ensure that progression concerns are addressed in a timely manner.
Use analytical and evidence-based decision making skills to develop and interpret reports, analyze and understand trends, and create actionable insights drawn from multiple sources to inform outreach plans, enhance persistence and completion initiatives. Focus efforts on student populations where greatest needs for support exist. Work within OTSS to generate creative ideas and implement a holistic approach to support the academic experiences and success of all transfer students. Help identify gaps in service for transfer students and organize relevant initiatives to enhance student knowledge and information regarding policies.
Monitor and provide recommendations for changes in academic policy, procedures, and processes related to enhancing undergraduate transfer student persistence, retention, and completion. Lead adhoc teams or groups through coordinated transfer success efforts across colleges and units. Assess and recommend improvements to enhance the effectiveness of persistence and completion initiatives throughout the campus community. Serve as a resource regarding academic information related to transfer student retention. Communicate academic requirements to students, faculty, and staff, as appropriate. Present at meetings, workshops, and conferences to disseminate and represent USF's transfer students' retention and completion strategies. Conduct information sessions, workshops, and training for staff, advisors, and students to address areas of concern that may impact student persistence. Participate in professional development and other opportunities of personal development and interest.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: MINIMUM:
This position requires a Master's degree in education, higher education, student affairs or a field of study related to the academic program, or a Bachelor's degree in those same fields with a minimum of two years of experience.
FLSB1310 Equivalency:
4 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree.
6 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for master's degree.
PREFERRED:
The preferred candidate will possess a Master's degree in Education, Counseling, or an academic field of study related to the position's responsibilities and three progressive years of academic coaching experience in a higher education setting. Additionally, candidates will also have demonstrated experience or knowledge with state and community college systems, transfer students, student retention and completion/graduation efforts.
