The Research Technologist II performs a laboratory role in the CAP accredited Nemours Biobank and Molecular Analysis Program and conducts various specimen processing for both internally and externally funded projects of interest to the laboratory. Performs a range of techniques and data collection under the direction of Lab Head, Program Manager, Research Scientist, Lab Manager or Clinical Research Coordinator. Leads in the maintenance of lab equipment. Leads in the inventory of materials, reagents and specimens. Provides advanced safety monitoring and oversight in the laboratory. Participates and may present at research laboratory meetings and may contribute to writing of manuscripts. Maintains both handwritten and computerized records of work performed. Assists in implementation of new laboratory protocols and processes.
Primary Responsibilities:
Responsible for processing various biological specimens, following laboratory protocols and SOP's.
Responsible for the coordination and management of samples through the laboratory (focus on Orlando) according to protocols and/or projects.
Knowledge and performance of laboratory functions consistent with CAP requirements.
Leads in maintaining the laboratory environment and function at a level consistent with CAP guidelines.
Function independently as assigned and assists in resolving issues in coordination with senior lab staff/PI.
Lead performance of monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual QA/QC procedures including equipment, safety audits, and material management.
Demonstrates safe use and operation of lab equipment and ensures necessary preventative maintenance
Utilize databases for specimen tracking.
Assist in coordination with senior lab staff, the training and orientation of new laboratory staff.
Understand and is knowledgeable of Nemours safety policies, procedures and performs more advanced safety functions in the lab.
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Degree required
Minimum of 3 years significant laboratory experience required
