Operations Superintendent (Project Management)
Interviews and hires site workers in partnership with the Human Resource Manager or Human Resources Associate.
Approves timecards and requests for time off.
Prepares work schedules and assignments.
Communicates and enforces safety procedures and site rules.
Conducts performance evaluations, recommends training, and development programs.
Essential Functions:
Operations Management:
Plan, organize, and supervise activities to ensure timely and efficient operations.
Ensure field supervisors are familiar with project requirements and regularly inspect their units.
Meet with Field Supervisors to communicate production goals and required tasks.
Monitor and manage the performance of crews and equipment operators.
Ensure adherence to production schedules and quality standards.
Maintain awareness of all contract requirements, operating periods, and production expectations.
Assist in developing effective strategies for project completion.
Safety and Compliance:
Enforce safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
Conduct regular safety meetings and training sessions for the crew.
Remains diligent to assess the potential safety risks of certain activities and keeps work area hazards minimized.
Identifies and addresses potential safety hazards related to cleanliness and organization, such as spills, clutter, or obstructed walkways. Adheres to safety regulations and protocols to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental policies and regulations.
Resource Management:
Manage and allocate resources, including manpower, machinery, and materials.
Coordinate maintenance and repair of equipment to minimize downtime.
Oversee inventory levels to ensure field supervisors maintain necessary supplies for efficient operations.
Reporting and Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of activities, including production reports, equipment logs, and incident reports.
Prepare and submit reports to management on operational performance and compliance status.
Ensure timely submission of timecards and daily production reports by field supervisors.
Team Leadership:
Lead, mentor, and develop the team, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
Address personnel issues and resolve conflicts in a timely and effective manner.
Equipment Operation and Training:
Operate and train employees in the use of heavy forestry equipment such as skidders, feller bunchers, log loaders, harvesters, delimbers, masticators, tracked skidders, dozers, excavators, and chippers.
Conduct multiple inspections throughout the day on equipment to check and maintain proper fluid levels, performance, etc.
Ensure the job site is safe, and all equipment is properly maintained and operational.
Operate a chainsaw or other equipment when needed.
Project Management:
Develop a schedule and cost-effective plan for completion of assigned projects.
Collaborate with other staff to create pre-bid estimates and budgets for materials and labor.
Regularly inspect work for quality and timeliness; prepare and provide progress reports; make recommendations for necessary modifications.
Monitor project budgets and communicate variances as they occur. Ensure understanding of contract promises, bid details, and crew performance relative to these expectations.
Maintain records related to costs and inventory.
Assist the Bid Team and Operations Manager with bidding opportunities as requested.
Stakeholder Engagement - Liaise with government regulators, non-government organizations, and the public to ensure transparency and cooperation.
Emergency Response - Manage responses to unexpected incidents such as natural disasters, equipment malfunctions, and medical emergencies.

Work Environment:
All work is performed outside in various weather conditions (i.e. heat, cold, wind, sun, inclement weather).

Exposure to fumes, odors, gases, dust, etc.
Physical Demands:
Must have excellent visual and auditory capabilities in order to manage sight and sounds in a hazardous forestry environment.
Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Coordination between hands, eyes, and feet to guide equipment and objects is required.
Must be able to push, pull, climb, sit, and stretch regularly.
Must be able to be alert and cognitive of multiple concurrent activities on project site.
Must be able to mount and dismount safely off vehicles and equipment.
Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
Must be able to walk on uneven terrain.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to work overtime as requested.
Travel Required:
Position travels outside the local area but usually within Northern California 50% of the time.
Required Education and Experience:
Minimum 2 years' experience in a supervisory role.
High School education or equivalent preferred.
Forestry: 1 year (preferred).
Heavy equipment operator: 3 years (preferred).
Mechanical knowledge: 2 years (preferred).
Additional Eligibility Requirements:
Flexibility to work up to 10-hour shifts, Monday to Friday, and Saturdays as required by operation needs.
Must have a valid driver's license. A Class A commercial driver's license may be required.
Clean driving record for the past 5 years.
Must pass pre-employment drug screen.
Other Duties:
When operating, they are responsible for the proper maintenance and care of equipment, ensuring it remains in optimal condition for efficient operation. They are expected to conduct routine inspections, perform preventive maintenance tasks, and promptly report any issues to management. Additionally, operators must operate machinery with caution and expertise to minimize the risk of damage and ensure longevity of equipment.
