Position Summary: The Substation Foreman is responsible for the supervision, assignment and coordination of the Substation Construction and Maintenance activities to ensure a productive workforce that supports all divisional, departmental, site and corporate goals while in accordance with all company policies and local, state, and federal regulations. The Substation Foreman will direct the work and provide technical assistance to subordinates assigned to assist him/her and craft employees working under lump sum and fixed unit price contracts. The Substation Foreman requires 8-9 years of continuous experience with 5 of these years worked as Top Substation Technician A craft position, and will be responsible for identifying, properly tracking and reporting of completed job units to the Project Manager or General Foreman. The Substation Foreman will participate in job estimation, and will be expected to attend pre-bid meetings and to conduct client pre-construction meetings. The Substation Foreman will be responsible for the safety and work quality of his crew. This is a working Foreman position and it may also be required to travel to another state depending on customer demands.
Essential Functions:
Oversees job to ensure crew is working safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair, testing, adjusting and troubleshooting work of substation equipment/systems which includes, but is not limited to, work involving the following:
Concrete Foundations, ground grids, and steel erection
Buswork (High and Low Voltage)
Airbreak / Hookstick Switches
Control Cable
Terminations (High / Low Voltage)
Control Buildings
Conduit and duck banks
Capacitor bank installations 23kv- 230 kv
Transformers, regulators and circuit breakers
Circuit Switchers, motor-operated and manual switches
Responsible for maintaining Company vehicles, test equipment and tools in good working conditions
Frequently works with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others.
Minimum Requirements:
Able to perform rigorous physical labor.
Must be capable of climbing and working at heights up to 125 feet above ground.
Must possess a Commercial Drivers' License.
Must supply own personal hand tools required by the company for this work.
Must supply own safety toed work boots.
Must be capable of lifting in excess of 50 lbs.
Must be capable of working in confined spaces/areas.
Must be able to work independently or with others.
Operational experience of various types of heavy equipment :
Bucket, derrick and boom trucks
Backhoes, excavators and skid steer loaders
Articulating Man-lifts
Pressure Diggers
Trenchers
Track Crawler Loader/Backhoe
Rough Terrain Telescopic Forklifts
Willing to work over-time or long hours during emergency conditions and/or when requested. Schedules can change frequently and with short notice.
90% Travel Required
Capable of following Company safety rules and policies.
Must have extensive knowledge of construction standard practices, techniques, quality requirements, applicable codes and standards.
Must be capable of working in close proximity of energized substation equipment.
Must interpret substation structural drawings (i.e. elevations, plan views, section views, grounding details, and foundation plans) and communicate with customers and subordinates.
Ability to accurately appraise technical situations and recommend resolutions to problems.
Ability to lead/coach subordinates on the crew.
Ability to develop and interpret a material list.
Ability to trace out phasing in a substation and verify to the three line diagrams.
Proficient knowledge in all aspects of substation systems.
Ability to determine the proper phase shift and rotation in paralleling transformer banks.
Able to direct the daily work of the crew.
Have the capability of reading and working from drawings, specifications, procedures, standards, as well as the ability to work within the confines of a project's performance schedule.
Responsibility for all crew members
Able to motivate work crew members and develop pride in crew members.
Ability to establish grade, elevations, and layout of foundations and cable trough in new and existing stations.
Willing to work over-time when requested.
Able to work for extended periods in various locations, when requested.
Willing to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required for the position.

The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in outside weather conditions.
