Position Overview:
The Optical Engineering department supports the design, analysis, fabrication, metrology, optical alignment, and optical testing of airborne and space-based optical systems, sub-systems, and components. The available position is for a mid-career candidate with relevant optics (and/or aerospace) industry experience. You will be expected to be able to work independently and collaborate across multiple engineering disciplines.
Responsibilities:
Developing integration and test plans/procedures for optical components and systems
Generating error budgets for fabrication of optical components and assembly/alignment of optical systems
Attending and preparing materials for presentation during System Requirements Review, Preliminary Design Review and Critical Design Review
Supporting optical fabrication/testing and optical system alignment and testing in clean room environment
Analyzing optical performance of optical components or systems (WFE, MTF, throughput, etc.)
Documenting test plans/procedures sufficiently to allow for peer review and multi-discipline transfer of information
Being able to work in a flexible environment of uncertain requirements and constraints to help guide others to ideal solutions
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with 0-2 years of relevant experience; Masters preferred
Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in optical engineering, physics, engineering or a related field
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
Optical design development and analysis in Code V, Zemax, FRED or equivalent packages
Experience working with optical test equipment such as interferometers (4D, Zygo) Laser Trackers, theodolites and associated software (4SightFocus, MetroPro/Mx, Spatial Analyzer) Working knowledge of programming language for data processing/analysis (Matlab, Python, Mathcad, Mathematica)
Working knowledge of aerospace integration and test protocols, assembly and test approaches
Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills to effectively interface with other organizations, management, professional and support staff, customers and government representatives
