Part-time YA Coordinator & Circulation Senior Clerk (Project Management)
Job Summary:
The Scranton Public Library is seeking an energetic and well-organized Young Adult Coordinator/Circulation Senior Clerk. Candidates should have the ability to implement and conduct programs and services with youth ages 12-18 and a strong public service commitment to assist patrons of all ages at our Circulation Desk. The schedule includes day, evening, and weekend shifts.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties: Young Adult Services
Under the direction of the Circulation Manager, plans, prepares, promotes, and conducts teen programs. Assists with performing outreach to community groups, organizations, and local schools with an emphasis on young adult services. Coordinates programs and services for young adults with the Nancy Kay Holmes Branch and other libraries in the Lackawanna County Library System. Is an active member of the LCLS YA Focus Group. Assists Circulation Manager with maintenance of the Young Adult collection.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties: Circulation Desk
Performs full range of circulation desk duties, including issuing library cards, checking materials in and out, shelving, collecting fines, and promoting library events. Staff the Readers Service Desk when needed. Assists patrons looking for library materials in person, on the phone, or by electronic means. Orders Interlibrary Loan materials for patrons. Additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Requirements:
Ability to use office software, email, web-based applications, and a variety of mobile devices. Works independently, take initiative, and successfully completes duties. Ability to work in a calm and friendly manner with patrons, co-workers, and volunteers. Must be reliable and punctual. Ability to communicate and relate with youth ages 12-18. Willingness to remain familiar with communication outlets, interests, and entertainment options favored by this age group. Comfortable speaking in front of groups. Ability to work cooperatively in a culture that requires teamwork. Previous experience working in a library and/or with teens is preferred. High school diploma or GED is required.
Physical Demand and Work Environment:
Physical ability to stand or sit for several hours. Lift up to 25lbs, reach, bend, kneel, crouch, and push carts loaded with books. Physical and manual dexterity are needed to carry out job duties. Ability to listen and clearly communicate with patrons in person, on the telephone, and in writing via electronic communication.
Benefits include:
Starting Hourly Rate: $15.98-17.58 depending on experience. Up to 5% TIAA-CREF match on retirement contributions. Vacation, personal time, sick time, and some paid holidays.
