Position Summary:
The Finance Specialist supports the Department of Mechanical Engineering with procurement and accounts payable functions. The duties for this position include reviewing, processing, and reconciling invoices and expenses, processing procurement requests, and providing detailed expenditure and budgetary reports. The Finance Specialist will handle all reimbursements and will process charges on departmental purchasing cards, ensuring that all expenses are posted correctly.

Workplace Requirements:
Full-time work on Rice University's campus, with the potential for some remote work/flexible work arrangements.
Hiring Range: $48,700-$60,800
*Exempt (salaried) positions under FLSA are not eligible for overtime.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree
- In lieu of the education requirement, additional related experience, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year-for-year basis may be substituted
- 1+ years of relevant experience in an administrative, financial role

- Advanced computer skills and demonstrated experience with office software and email applications
- Proven success in following through and completing projects

Preferences:
- Bachelor's degree
- Three years of experience in a corporate or higher education environment
- Experience with integrated financial systems
- Familiarity with research proposal preparation and submission.
- Experience with compliance with agency and University regulations related to funding and expenditure
Essential Functions:
- Administers the daily operations of the research group and provides support to the group members
- Composes documents for presentations, course handouts, grants, conferences, seminars, and reports; performs substantial research, editing and fact-checking
- Makes complex travel arrangements
- Coordinates conferences, seminars, and events for the research group
- Processes a variety of financial transactions; monitors annual project budgets, and prepares expense reports and reimbursements for the research group members and visiting collaborators
- Submits purchase orders and requisitions and reconciles purchasing card statements
- Assists in fundraising and establishing new contracts with the energy industry and other organizations
- Maintains calendar
- Updates research website
- Assists with preparation and submission of various internal and external reports
- Performs other duties as assigned
