Licensed Vocational Nurse I/II Full Time & Per Diem - RUHS Arlington Campus - Riverside (Finance)
The Riverside University Health System-Medical Center is seeking Licensed Vocational Nurses to join the acute inpatient psychiatric care unit and the emergency treatment services department located at the Arlington Campus in the city of Riverside.
The Arlington Campus consists of four inpatient adult units and an adolescent unit as well as emergency treatment psychiatric services. Incumbents will need to possess strong communication and de-escalation skills, along with group facilitation abilities.
Unit A: A nine bed inpatient unit for the highest acuity of behavioral health patients.
Units B and C: Acute inpatient psychiatric care units. These units are comprised of 28 beds each and provide acute inpatient adult behavioral health care.
Unit D: The adolescent unit currently has 12 beds for patients aged 13-17.
Emergency Treatment Services: the emergency treatment services serve patients of all ages. Quick triage and assessment skills and a 24-hour observation of patients for additional treatment/services needs.
Positions that require phlebotomy must be Blood Withdrawal certified by the Board of CA Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians.

Per Diem positions requires at a minimum, two (2) weekends shifts and two (2) weekday shifts per month.

3/12, Day Shift - 7:00 am to 7:30 pm and includes rotating weekends
3/12, Night Shift - 7:00 pm to 7:30 am and includes rotating weekends

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
•Gives general and psychiatric nursing care to mentally ill, emotionally disturbed and developmentally disabled patients; works with other disciplines as part of the treatment staff to provide an overall treatment program for the patients; helps to create a safe and therapeutic environment for patients.
• Applies mental hygiene principles in all relationships with patients; motivates patients to develop self-reliance in daily living; develops, encourages participation in, and supervises on-the-unit group and individual program activities for patients.
• Assists doctors and registered nurses in the administration of special treatments and examinations; assists rehabilitation therapists in occupational and recreational therapy programs, and physical therapists in providing treatment for patients.
• Assists patients with feeding, behavior modification, and maintaining a well-groomed appearance; keeps patients and their beds, clothing, and living areas clean.
• Follows safe practices; protects patients from personal injury; receives visitors and encourages their interest in the patients' well being; escorts patients to and from the community.
• Orders supplies as needed; gives first aid as needed; under supervision, provides nursing care to patients; prepares patients and cares for them during treatment.
• Administers medications subcutaneously, intramuscularly, intradermally, subdermally, and/or orally, takes temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure of patients as necessary; applies and changes dressings and administers treatments including catheterizations, irrigations, and enemas.
• Collects specimens for laboratory analysis; charts treatments and medications and maintains pertinent medical records; assists doctors and registered nurses in the administration of medical records.
• Assists in the preparation and implementation of patient care plans; participates in patient education programs; observes patients' condition and behavior and reports significant changes to the supervisor.
• May act as a team leader over nursing assistants, departmental supportive services aides, licensed vocational nurses, or other licensed psychiatric technicians; participates in in-service training programs.
• Documents care in the medical record in compliance with ethical and legal standards.
• Participates in de-escalation of patients with behavioral emergency situations.
• Other patient care duties as assigned on the unit.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Licensed Vocational Nurse I:
Full-Time Pay Range: $26.3632/hour to $38.6419/hour
Per Diem Pay: $36.8018 per hour
Experience: None required.
Knowledge of: Current principles, techniques and procedures used within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act for vocational nursing; medical terminology, hospital and/or health care procedures and equipment; medication administration as outlined in policies and procedures.
Ability to: Skillfully perform vocational nursing duties and responsibilities within the scope of professional practice of the Nurse Practice Act for vocational nursing; learn and follow policies and procedures; establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, mid-level practitioners, patients, and co-workers; complete and maintain reports and clinical records per established policies and procedures.
Licensed Vocational Nurse II:
Full-Time Pay Range: $27.8976/hour to $40.8905/hour
Per Diem Pay: $38.9433 per hour
Experience : At least one year of successful experience as an LVN, preferably in a public health clinic environment.
Knowledge of : Current principles, techniques and procedures used in vocational nursing within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act for vocational nursing; medical terminology, acute care procedures and equipment; medication administration and any policies and procedures of the setting assigned.
Ability to : Skillfully perform the full range of vocational nursing duties and responsibilities within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act for vocational nursing; learn and follow policies and procedures for the setting assigned; establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, mid-level providers, registered nurses, patients, and co-workers; complete and maintain reports and patient records; make observations of situations accurately and report them so effective action can be taken according to rules of documentation and policies and procedures.
Other Requirements for Both Levels I and II: License : Possession of a valid California Vocational Nurse's License issued by the California Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technician Examiners.
Certification : Possession of a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association for professional healthcare providers.
A valid California Driver's License may be required.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Voluntary employee contribution with a choice between two 457 deferred compensation plan options.
VACATION ACCRUAL (Bi-Weekly Accrual):
0< 3 year = 80 Hours (10 Days)
4< 9 years = 120 Hours (15 Days)
10 or more years = 160 Hours (20 Days)
Maximum Vacation leave accumulation is 480 hours.
SICK LEAVE: Four (4) hours Sick Leave accrual per pay period with unlimited accrual.
HOLIDAYS: Normally 12 paid holidays per year.
BEREAVEMENT LEAVE: Allowed 5 days (3 days are County paid; 2 additional days can be taken from accrued Sick Leave balance).
BASIC LIFE INSURANCE: Equal to one times annual base salary not to exceed $50,000 of term life coverage. Premiums are paid by the County. Additional Supplemental Life plan is available for employee purchase.
DISABILITY: Short-term Disability benefit pays up to a maximum of $461.54 weekly, payable up to a maximum of 52 weeks.
POST RETIREMENT MEDICAL CONTRIBUTION: A monthly contribution is made by the County towards retiree health insurance offered through the County as governed by the applicable SEIU Memorandum of Understanding.
